Great turnaround

North American Van Lines was going to move my two-bedroom apartment from southeast Michigan to Maryland, but about two weeks before the move, they backed out on me. So I called a yourmovingday agent who had given me a quote two months previously and asked if he could do it. He promised me a call back in half an hour, and he did call back to say that he could get it done. This was a huge load off my shoulders; I didn't know if we would be able to find a mover this late. Bear in mind that this is in late July XXXprime moving season when capacity is frequently over 100 percent. We talked about dates and he promised me a call back in the afternoon to confirm a date. Two hours later he called back, confirmed a date, and faxed me the contracts. In four hours we had scheduled a move. The crew showed up on the date scheduled on time and were courteous and professional. No complaints about the move-out. My condo association only allows one move-in per day, and it has to be scheduled three days in advance, and there are no exceptions. I told the driver this half expecting to be laughed at, but he understood and told me he would do his best to accommodate the date I had booked. He was true to his word, and the unloading crew showed up on time on the right date and unloaded quickly. When you get dumped at the last minute by a moving company, and you are desperate, another carrier can easily take advantage of you. Allied did not. It was an excellent move and I can't thank them enough. If you're moving out of Michigan, I strongly recommend calling Michael Martins at America's Moving Services (877-708-6683). My only complaint is that a couple items of furniture received some scratches, but no more than one would expect during a move. Their literature promised that all furniture would be stretch-wrapped for transit, but some of my things were not. But that's a pretty minor quibble, and if I had pressed the issue, I'm sure I could have had them do it on the load-out.
