Yay, easily the easiest move I've had in about 8 professional moves. I've moved across the country a few times, across various cities a few times, and this was the easiest of them all.
http://unionofDCmovers.com Quoted me 7 hours for a three-man crew to move me out of a storage unit across town and into a 23rd floor apartment. I figured they were overestimating the time, since it took a 3-man crew three hours to pack up my old house (two story) and another hour to unload to the storage unit. That said, the previous movers weren't dealing with cross-town traffic, a super-long entry dock, numerous hallways to negotiate and 24 floors up on the freight elevator from the basement.
I showed up 15 minutes early the morning of my move and was pleased to see the movers already there. They even took the time to pad and tape up furniture items that Allied had not padded on my cross-country move. Even with a 20-minute forced break (we were finished so quickly at the storage unit that my building's dock was not yet open!), the guys finished in half the quoted time - 3.5 hours. That's faster that the previous movers, who didn't have to deal with the dock and freight elevator.
Everything was on the up & up, no hidden charges, no haggling over how long the hallways were, just straight-up fast service and payment by the hour.
