Used this company for my cross country move. The local agent (Nationwide Moving and Storage) advertise themselves as the official movers for Yale University, but have very dishonest business practices. My estimate was for 1687 lbs, but was told there was a summer minimum of 2800 lbs. Actual weight that I was charged for....3400 lbs, off by nearly 100%, but the response from the company was "That was just an estimate - you had more boxes than was guessed." On loading day damage was done to the property, which I may have never known, had a neighbor that lives downstairs not witnessed the movers back the truck into the house and notify my landlord. After several months of dealing with the company, their response was "The driver says he didn't do it, so we are denying it too." Arrival was very late, as my shipment sat at the original storage facility for nearly a month, and was delivered late with no compensation for the delay. Getting the shipment 1 month after pickup required near daily phone calls to national headquarters. Lastly, several boxes were missing from the delivery, including a computer monitor, but the claim is still being processed in September after being submitted in July. I previously used another large van line for my move from CA to CT, and everything went smoothly. However, given the sheer number of problems and the resistance of the company to rectify these problems, I will never use nor recommend North American Van Lines.
