Think twice before you use ABF U-Pack to move! As an elderly couple, we have moved nine times and have never had this terrible of an experience before. We paid for ABF to pack our furniture. We packed everything else (boxes) including all our fragile things, clearly marked the boxes as such with list of what was inside. 85% of our furniture was damaged!!! The furniture was not padded correctly and the 15% that wasn't damaged was correctly loaded at the front of the truck. The damaged furniture was at the rear of the truck. Not properly loaded to say the least. Many of the fragile marked boxes we packed were 24+% CRUSHED. Since we packed them and have been through the drill, nothing that we packed was damaged. Heavy boxes were loaded on top of clearly marked fragile boxes. Let me put what over 85% damage is into perspective. 43 pieces of furniture damaged out of 50. To further aggrevate the situation we couldn't really move in for over 90 days do to extent of damage and length of time to "settle". We had an expert who made furniture for Ethan Allen for over 20 years and now repairs and sells high end hand made furniture. We asked, because ABF required us to have him give us an estimate. Our guidelines to him were simple. We just wanted the furniture to look like it did before they moved it - repaired or replaced as needed. ABF U-pack sent out an expert. Interesting that he first introduced himself as representing us. We asked who was paying him for his time, etc. He said ABF. So we said you clearly aren't represent us. Our expert and their expert where significantly different - well over $10,000. We complained with no satisfaction. I tried to contact the President of ABF, had somebody contact me who was pleasant to deal with but wouldn't consider anything other than what they offered. Possible we could arbitrate of in this situation sue for gross negligence, but lots of time, irritation, etc. and would likely come down to our expert versus theirs. We would strongly suggest that you think twice about using ABF U-Pack. Obviously we will never use them again and regret that we did in the first place. Saving a few bucks cost us dearly.
