Our move in January 2009 was a long distance move from Las Vegas, NV to Burlington, VT. We were moving from a 3BR/2BA, 1700 sq. ft. house, with full attic and basement and ten years of stuff. They did all the packing for us.
We researched several local movers, and got quotes from two and another 3 quotes over the phone. The people who came to the house from both companies took inventory of our belongings, and both of their estimates were very close. In the end we decided to go with americas moving services for several reasons:
-Fewer BBB complaints, and of the few that we found had all been responded to and resolved by the company
- Recommendation from friends
- Availability of 18-wheel truck (which meant less time spent trying to fit everything into a smaller truck)
- Company sent more movers: 4 versus 3 from the other companies
- Customer service reps seemed more knowledgeable than at other companies
- Availability of a "personal move coordinator"
They arrived on time with an 18-wheeler and five guys, and actually came in $500 under their original estimate. They were courteous, careful of our possessions, and mindful of small things like not marring the walls or tracking dirt onto floors.
All our furniture and mattresses were securely wrapped so nothing got dirty or scratched. I was impressed that they took the time to lay down cardboard in the foyer and kitchen and laid down adhesive backed plastic runners on all our carpeting throughout the house, even up the stairs.
They had a good system: two guys in the truck to load, three guys in the house to carry items out to the truck. They had a similar system at the new place, two guys inside the house, and three outside. They were also willing to help us position the furniture in each room and put items together, like beds and bookshelves.
Our new house is located on a dead-end curvy street, and the driver was able to back his 18-wheeler down the street to get out of our subdivision without hitting any mailboxes or driving up on any curbs XXXpretty impressive.
When we finally settled in, the only breakage we found was to an old rickety table, which had lost a piece of wood trim. We did move a majority of the most fragile possessions ourselves, things like expensive knickknacks and stained glass lamps. However, the movers did transport all our dishes, glasses, and bakeware, and nothing was chipped or broken.
All in all, I am very satisfied with these movers and will definitely hire them again for our next move.
