Horrible, Horrible Experience

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a mover. They simply never showed up. Bottom line: I made an appointment and received an estimate for my move from André. A woman with a strong Eastern European accent called me the morning of the move to confirm the time and address. She was pleasant but did not seem to understand everything I said (André also had a very heavy foreign accent, but understood English). I then waited for hours for the movers to arrive. After my appointment time had passed, André called to tell me that they were running late - about 4 hours late, it turns out. I was assured that they were coming that day. Those 4 hours then passed and still no one arrived. When I called to find out where they were, no one answered the phone. I called repeatedly for more than an hour. At 7pm, Andre called back to tell me they would arrive by 7:30pm, yet the driver was in a city more than an hour away. The sun was setting. No one from Best Movers ever showed up. I learned valuable lessons from this bad experience: ● DO NOT go with the cheapest mover. A good, reputable mover will not cost much more than the cheap ones. Find one that is a member of the American Moving & Storage Association. ● Free book and wardrobe boxes are meaningless if the mover does not ever show up. ● There are many companies in the DC area that are happy to have your business and who employ native speakers of English who are polite and understand what you are saying to them. ● Get a written estimate. A reputable mover will happily email this to you. You can opt for an in person estimate if you have a larger move. This protects you as much as the mover. According to a number of moving companies I spoke with, a lot of customers have shared horror stories involving low end movers. Do your homework. Make the phone calls. Look over the contracts/estimates and use a reputable company. This is about moving your possessions. They are clearly valuable enough to you to pay a mover. Your moving schedule is also important. If the mover doesn't care enough to show up, they certainly don't have even the most basic respect for your time or your things. I would love to know who wrote all the previous glowing reviews for Best Movers DC. If you go to judysbook.com where many of them originated, it seems that there are several reviews written by the same person at the same time for different moving companies. Maybe they're legitimate, honest reviews, but I doubt it. Given how badly they treated me, I cannot believe I am the only person to whom Best Movers DC has done this.
