SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
I've finally calmed down after my move with Big Brothers Moving on Saturday, 6/30/2012 to write a review of their "services". As others have mentioned, I fell prey to Adam, the manager's low quote of $289.00 for four hours of moving, which was far below any other estimate I received for the move. I should have known it was too good to be true.
On the day of the move, Adam called to let me know the movers were going to be anywhere from 2-4 hours late. They arrived 4.5 hours later. My move began at 5:28 PM with 3 movers (an extra person was sent), and should have gone very smoothly. I expected to be in my new home by 9:00 PM at the latest.
Please know that everything was packed and disassembled prior to their arrival. The truck wasn't loaded until 3.5 hours later, and I knew we were going over the allotted time. The movers were moving at a glacial pace, in an effort to extend their hourly rate. I noticed 2 of them take cell phone calls as well. They would come up to the apartment and at times leave to go back to the truck with nothing in hand. By the 3rd hour, my partner and I began carrying items down as fast as we could. The job would get done in a timely manner whether Big Brothers Moving liked it or not.
At the second location, the team leader refused to unload any single item from the truck until the bill was paid, which is fine. However, he overestimated the unloading time, charging us an additional hour, based on what he thought it would take the crew to unload. We were also charged $474 in packing materials. I asked to see the remains of 12 ROLLS OF TAPE they used as evidence, but he refused.
When I tried to call Adam to have him verify the original quote, of course no one answered, and my message has not been returned.
$289 seemed great, until it actually cost $1089.
