My son was moving to his first duty station as a new Ensign in the Navy. The moving company was made aware fromthe time we made the reservation that it was a military move and weight tickets were needed. Our original quote was for $1091.98 for 2001 pounds. When they arrived to pick up the furniture they said that we wer over that weight and charged $1837.08 but told ud once th eshipment was weighed they would be able to figure the exact charges. We reminded them several times before they left our home that we needed the weight tickets and were told they were going directly to get the truck weighed. We had been told that delivery would be made in SC on Aug 15 or 16. The shipment was not l;oaded on the truck in TX until August 16. Delivery was finally made on August 22, 2010 and the driver had not gotten weight tickets. He claimed there was no place between his last delivery in NC and our delivery in Chrleston, SC to get his truck weighed. Since we had been told by the crew that picked up the shipment on August 9 that they were getting a heavy weight onthe shipment we accepted delivery. His helpers left 1/3 of the way tfough the delivery and myhusband, my son and his friends carried the rest of the shipment in. The driver claimed the helpers heard someone say something that they didn't like. The only thing that was said was that they should pull up their pants. The next morning we spoke to Orion Moving and were told that there never was a heavy weight ticket for the pickup on August 9. They did offer to refund some money to my son since we had carried part of the shipment in. They never called back about that and now are saying that they never said that. They are now saying that we never asked for weight tickets and that they did not know it was a military move. I have been told by one employee that it is in our file in bold print "MILITARY MOVE weight tickets needed" They are charging us for 6300 pounds but have no proof of how they came to this weight. . I have documented weights of all the furniture and the 2 largest boxes which makes up 25 of the 36 items in the shipment totalling 2071 pounds. The other 11 boxes were dishes, pots & pans, other misc kitchen items, clothing, bedding, roller hockey gear and small appliances. It is impossible for these 11 boxes to make up the rest of the weight to equal the 6300 pounds we were charged for. Orion Moving is not at all interested in looking at this documentation. The last contact from Ms. Torey said "There is nothing more we can do at this time." This move cost $3674.16 about 2 months pay for my son and he will not be bale to be reimbursed by the Navy with out the weight tickets.
