In case you don’t have a lot of time I’ll put the most important piece of information right here at the beginning. Never, ever use All My Sons Moving. No matter what they quote you and tell you over the phone, they will not deliver and you will be left wishing you had never even heard their name. Moving is stressful, no matter how you do it, we knew this and were prepared to deal with the stress. All My Sons offered a good price, and we were excited about many of the services they supposedly offered. They apparently can move a piano so we were pretty confident there wouldn’t be an issue with our 3 bedroom 1800 square foot home. We told them on the phone that we had a refrigerator, “no problem” we were told. “What about beds, can you guys dismantle them?” we asked. “Sure, no problem at all” we were told. The gentleman on the phone told us that they usually allow an hour for each room to be packed up; probably between 6 and 7 hours total for the entire move (we were only moving 20 miles away). Six weeks before moving day I started packing. The entire upstairs of the house, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry room and attic were packed and moved downstairs, leaving only furniture to be brought down. Downstairs everything except breakables was boxed up and ready to go. The movers were scheduled at 10am, and were actually early and started work right away. Things were looking okay to start with, that was until I mentioned the refrigerator. “We don’t do refrigerators” I was told. After some discussion they agreed to move it, I said they may need to take the doors off, and was told that they don’t do that. They attempted to remove the refrigerator from the house and put a three foot long gouge along the front door, as well as a couple of dents in our almost new refrigerator. When we pointed out the damage to the front door we were told that they believed it was already like that!!! We had been told that we need not pack our hanging clothes as they would bring 5 wardrobe boxes, they brought 3, and proceeded to hang shirts, tops and blouses in them, leaving suits, dresses and coats to be stuffed in trash bags at the last minute. Things seemed to be taking longer than we thought, and it was soon time for us to leave and go to our closing, leaving my Mother-in-law with the movers. After closing we called to check in and they were still working on getting the van packed. They informed us that they were unable to take apart my 1 year olds crib as they didn’t have the necessary tools. It only needed an Allen wrench, a pretty standard tool for people who need to take apart furniture. Long story short they left the crib at our old house as they could not get it out of the bedroom. My husband had to drive to the hardware store buy a set of Allen wrenches (ours were packed in the All My Sons truck) and go back to our old house, where the new owners helped him load the crib into a 2 door Ford Focus and bring it to our new home. Meanwhile I am left waiting for the moving truck; it took them 90 minutes to do a 26 mile trip. Once they arrive we are already into overtime charges and so have them drop everything right inside the front door. Almost 12 hours after they started they left, with us paying more than twice what we were quoted and nothing being in it’s correct place. My husband and I put the crib and our bed together and then started moving boxes to where they were supposed to be, it took all night and the entire next day before we could even start opening boxes. Once we were able, we attempted to contact Gabriel, who we were told owned the Norfolk location. We left several messages and never got a call back, finally one day he answered the phone and I was able to explain our dissatisfaction. We gave me a claims number to contact regarding the front door which we were to replace for the new owners, as well as the refrigerator damage and a piece of artwork that did not survive the move with its glass intact. Of course they require photos and notarized statements and all sorts of other information that we gathered and mailed in. The front door alone was to cost us in excess of $450 to replace, the art another $200. They offered us less than $130 total, which if we accepted meant that we could not do exactly what I am doing here. So we declined their generous offer and launched an e-mail campaign to inform as many people as possible of the ineptitude of All My Sons Moving. I only covered a few of the problems that we experienced; I could probably write a short story if I put my mind to it. All My Sons did not deliver, their customer service is shabby and I would urge you to call anyone but them.
