Two years ago I had booked at rental truck for my move and was told on the day of my planned move that they'd overbooked and didn't have a truck available. This time, I figured I'd shell out for the convenience and guarantee of having a moving company do the job. My, how history repeats itself. The people I spoke to when I got a quote and then called back to book movers were quite nice; in fact, they went to great lengths to make sure I knew they were reputable, careful, and in no way lazy. The person I spoke to when booking asked me my preferred time (AM) and said could movers there between 8-9 AM, so in the days leading up to the move that's what I planned for. The person who called the day before the move told me that I was now scheduled for the afternoon. I was irritated, but what was I going to do? I made a $100 deposit over the phone with her, to confirm their services for the next day (Ha!). The next day came and around 1 PM I called in to check on the status of the movers. Could I expect them in the early afternoon or was it going to be more like 4 or 5? The person I spoke said the movers should be finishing up soon and he'd contact the movers and call me back. An hour and a half later, with no return call, I called in again. Once again, I was told the movers were coming, the job was taking a "little" longer than expected, and I'd get a call 30-45 minutes out. No call came. Finally, at quarter til 5, I called in and was told that due to the amount of time and locations of other jobs that day, and because their movers don't work past a certain time, that they weren't able to move me. I was very upset and the person I spoke to asked me when I was available to reschedule. Since I'd taken 1 & 1/2 days off of work, I asked for Saturday. I was told other jobs were scheduled for that day. He also offered me a paltry 10% discount, which amounted to waiving the fuel-surcharge (estimated at $30-$40) and in no way made up for the frustration or money lost from taking off of work. Luckily, I was able to find another moving company the next day who has lower rates across the board and was used by a family member. They came the next day, as they had promised.
