Don't move with All Star

In February, 2009 I hired All Star Moving Services to move my small amount of personal goods from Boston, MA to Arkansas. I would not want anyone else to endure the extremely poor service that this company performed in moving my personal belongings. I will admit that the main reasons I chose All Star was their price and the excellence of their phone representative. I unfortunately got what I paid for, and their phone representative was the only good staff member. Most of their staff did not speak enough English to be able to communicate with me. I had very few belongings because I had sold most of them. The rest were stored in my aunt's basement. The load consisted mainly of moving quality boxes, plastic bins, a number of moving quality wardrobe boxes, and 5 picture boxes. The few non-box items included two antique wooden chairs, a bicycle, a handmade end table, another small end table, two plastic saw horses, and 2 auto bike racks. I paid $1956.00 for their moving services. I unfortunately opted for the minimum insurance, $0.60 per pound per article. I should have paid for the full replacement value, but I was paying for the move myself and on a tight budget. The agreed delivery date on the contract was February 28 to March 1. They loaded on February 24th and they unloaded on March 6th. They loaded into a smaller utility truck and told me that it would be immediately reloaded into a moving van. In looking at the condition of my goods as delivered, it is my guess that they may have been loaded and unloaded several times. The goods arrived in very poor condition. Four of the plastic bins were broken, moving boxes were caved in, and wardrobes were broken. Of the few unboxed pieces, the end table had deep gouges, the table was missing a part, one sawhorse was missing its top, but worst of all, the spindles on one of the antique chairs were either broken or missing. As I unpacked I discovered that I was missing the largest of the picture boxes (containing two valuable pictures), a suitcase full of shoes and other articles, and the bike bags to my bicycle that had contained my bike light, lock, pedal, helmet, and windbreaker and pants. The company put me in touch with their Claims Processing Center. I sent in the required forms and pictures within the one month limitation on April 3rd. They received it the 6th. They sent me a letter acknowledging the receipt of my claim and dated May 5, 2009. I was told that the claim would be resolved in 120 days from the date of the complete claim submittal. I have heard nothing from them since that time, although I called several times. Each time I was assured that the resolution of the claim would be mailed shortly. I have given up on ever having the claim resolved. I could take them to small claims court, but the small amount they might be somehow forced to pay will never erase the missing and broken items. Please, consider very carefully before you hire this company.
