I was quoted $2750 for my move which would include loading the truck at my storage unit and unloading at my destination. Mil said they are a small family owned company and would be transporting my belongings alone rather than in a truck with the belongings of others. I was very happy to hear this because I worry about bug infestations if my things were in the same truck with the belongings of others. They emailed me twice saying they would like to visit my location to see the actual size of the load. This sounded like a good idea so I contacted them each time saying YES please come and take a look. I said I only need 10 minutes notice and I would meet them. I was told by Mil each time that this was not actually necessary since it was a storage unit and she knew the size. They arrived on time. They packed things nicely. About three quarters of the way through, the guy named Yousef said I had more than he expected and it might involve a little more money. He also indicated that they would be taking the truck to a bigger truck to be loaded with other shipments going to the midwest. I called Mil who said she would be there if I had to call for any reason. (She said I am SO NICE that she was sending her best movers and would be available the entire day of the move to take my call if anything came up because she wanted to make sure I was happy with the experience!) She did not answer my call and never responded to my message. I told Yousef that I would not be paying any extra charges based upon our contract which Mil insisted I sign online. He finished loading the truck, went over the list of items they had loaded, having me sign each page. The final page included the $2750.00 charge which I had agreed to pay. I paid him $1500 in cash which Mil said was fine since they are a family business and are to be trusted. The remainder was to be paid at delivery. At this point, with my cash in his hand and my belongings in his truck he WROTE IN ON THE ALREADY SIGNED CONTRACT A TOTAL OF $5600.00! When I realized he was not kidding, I told him to unload the truck. He refused. I called the police who made him unload the truck. They said I had to sue him for my money because they were not allowed to involve themselves in what was now a civil action. They unloaded the truck and damaged some of my bookcases by unwrapping them and dragging them over concrete. I am suing them.
