Dishonest, misleading, bad company

American Van Lines Relocation Division intentionally deceived me and misrepresented the service that they promised and took a large deposit to perform. Several of the sales people kept reassuring me that I would have a guaranteed pick-up window. They even talked me out of several other bidding companies by describing the competitors as inconsistent and not "in control". They knowingly convinced me that they were far more in control of the process then they actually were. I was even told about a mythical "truck" that was in the area and going to be stopping in Kansas on the way to the destination in Denver. I am filing this complaint because the company has a contract that is hugely biased in favor of American Van Lines. Even after a DEPOSIT, American Van Lines assumes ZERO risk. I called them five times and was passed around for two days before finally speaking to a supervisor that admitted there was no "Carrier" yet. It was already Saturday and their window was Saturday-Sunday. I spent $600 in airfare to be in Saint Louis for the move. To make matters worse, that Monday my lease expires and a new tenant was moving in so my belonging had to be removed. In addition, I had already scheduled flights to Denver so I could be present for the delivery that Wednesday. The supervisor just said, "Well, you are entitled to have your deposit back". Since all my belongings had to be removed I have to rent a local truck to move my objects to a temporary storage area that I will also have to pay for. Then fly back to Denver for work, with no furnished place to live. Stay in a hotel until I can coordinate another moving company. Then fly back to Saint Louis to be present. After this is complete I will have already burnt most of the month's rent before ever staying in my new apartment. This company took my deposit without ever having the promised service locked down. They never communicated to me that here was a possibility that their window would not be met and might never have. I am a very hardworking integral 27 year old trying to make good in this life. I saved for months so I could afford to move to Denver and American Van Lines Relo has caused more than $1,500 in unforeseen and unfair costs. This company is predatory and takes advantage of those that have little to no leverage. I hope that there is something the BBB can do to give me a voice and prevent others from being taken advantage of the way i was. There needs to be some responsibility. It would certainly be a fair assessment to be compensated for the extra costs on me due to American Van Lines Relocation Division's negligence.
