I would like to take this opportunity to encourage those of you looking for a reputable moving company NOT to use Americas Moving Services. I recently relocated from Dallas, TX to Decatur, GA and had a very unpleasant experience. The movers stated they would arrive at 8:30 am, showed up at 10:30, and took 8 hours to load. I lived in a 960 square foot house with 2 bedrooms - not a 5 bedroom house. When they came to unload, they reported they would arrive at 9am and showed up at 6:30 pm. The delivery date was a Monday. My new place is a loft style apartment, so at 11:00 pm when they were still working, my neighbors were less than pleased and filed a formal complaint against me for noise. The move was going so slowly, I was helping carry things, unwrap furniture and help put things together. I am a single female, and we had a second drop off (already discussed with the company in advance) across town. Needless to say, at 11:45 pm I was less than pleased to be alone in a storage unit with two strange men. This was February 27, 2012. The following day, I had to return to the storage unit because the mover had forgotten to drop off my bed. When we got on the elevator, a trunk of my belongings was found sitting on the elevator because the mover was "tired and must have forgotten it." I had a man's suit and trench coat in my belongings and a comforter - neither of which were mine that I had to load and return. I realized on February 28 that I had at least 5 boxes missing and let the driver and customer service rep know. After numerous emails (some of which were completely ignored) and a promise that my belongings were on the way on March 7, 2012, I decided just to wait. I waited 20 days, complained again, threatened to use an attorney, and finally received MOST but still not all of my belongings on 3/29/12. When they arrived, they were in the building across the street, so I had to carry them to my building and up to the 4th floor. Yesterday, I moved my dining room table for something and found that when they reassembled it the legs were all on backwards, so I had to turn the table over and fix it myself. My washer and dryer were not hooked up and were placed in the closet backwards. I am single, working full time, and working on my doctorate as well. I paid someone to move me so that transitioning to a new town and job would be easier on me. Not only did I spend over $2600, I lost belongings, had items broken, and did much of the work myself. What makes me angrier than anything is the level of apathy and poor communication and customer service provided by the company. I do not feel that my concerns were addressed nor do I feel they were helpful in locating my missing items. The company promised a letter of apology to my neighbor and myself which has never been done. Basically, I believe they took my money and have never had any intentions of making things right with me much less bothering to apologize for the difficulties. I realize people make mistakes, but I feel that they made numerous ones and never truly acknowledged my concerns. I strongly advise you to use another company.
