On my previous move, I had been severely ripped off (you read those online horror stories...I fell for one, hard), so my Spidey-sense was up the whole time I was looking for movers. On my initial contact with several, I told the person I spoke to google "moving scam," and if I even caught a whiff that they would pull anything on that list, the whole thing would be off.
Well, these guys were one of three companies to return my phone call (I called about 9 or 10). Gives you some perspective about this industry.
we were going on a long distance move to Kentucky this time and all the movers were more or less the same price. So I took these guys as their estimate was in the middle, and they actually came to my house to give me an in-person estimate (the others said they would, these guys actually came).
Pros: They were polite, and very personable on the phone. Actually kept their appointment to give me an estimate. the people that arrived an hour early for the pickup, stayed late. They got everything done in one move, and nothing broke, nothing is missing. They only underestimated the number of boxes needed by 2 (they priced me out 45 and it took 47)...that's a record, and that's usually where they get you.
Cons: as nice and hard working as they were, they were not particularly efficient. Some of the boxes were really sparsely packed and could easily have been combined. I have had four movers in my lifetime, and each one, no exception here, has been off on their estimates of how long it should take to pack up my house. quit an issue when you also have to take care of cleaning and prepping the place prior to inspection. Thus, it took them about 3 or 4 hours over what they said it would. We had a "not to exceed" agreement, and we hit that and they didn't try to wheedle more money out of me, so that's okay. They said the guy who gave me the estimate was new...I forgive them for this because the box estimate was remarkably spot on; but I'm docking them a star for it at the same time.
Bottom line – far less horrible that expected. I stood my guard, but these guys do seem to be legit and serious with their customer service.
