Beckens is a nightmare... find someone else

Beckens Moving & Storage is by far the worst moving company out there. There are plenty of other companies to choose from, save yourself the stress, anger, frustration and heartache and find another company. We hired Beckens to move our stuff from Maryland to North Jersey. They called a few days before our move and were insistent that they come on Sunday rather than what was scheduled, Monday morning. After I relented they still showed up late. One of the first comments out of the lead guy was a racist comment about the people of the neighborhood which I just ignored since I didn't want to have an issue with the people taking our possessions. The next thing we noticed was that the truck was already half full. There was no way all of our furniture and boxes would fit but they insisted it would. After an hour of going over and signing papers, it was time for a cigarette break. Then they started slowly disassembling the beds (they claim to be full service) and other pieces of furniture. after a couple hours and several more cigarette breaks they finally put the first box on the truck. The truck began filling up quickly and when they started to worry about not everything fitting (though they still insisted it all would) they began asking us what of possessions we'd like to throw away, rather than move. My wife was in tears. Rather than continue asking this, they decided it was time for another cigarette. 8 hours later it was 2am and the truck was completely full with several boxes and a couple pieces of furniture remaining. They said it wasn't a problem and that they could send a truck the next day or Tuesday at the latest. We weren't happy, but at least everything would be on a truck and nothing would need to be thrown away. 5 hours later our mover called to inform us a truck would be on the way that day (Monday). Around noon I called the dispatch line to ask when they thought the truck might arrive and was told now it wouldn't be until Tuesday. Mind you this a now 95% vacant apartment, so after spending the night on the floor in a sleeping bag I woke up Tuesday morning awaiting the movers. Nothing in the AM, so again I called the dispatch line and got no answer. I left 4 voice mails before hearing from someone that they would arrive in between 1230 and 230. 230 came and went and several more voice mails were left until I was finally called back by the driver that they would be there at 3. Finally they arrived and took the remaining items. (Side note these different drivers also commented on the ethnicity of the neighborhood) The night before our move in date we contacted the movers to ask about an ETA for our things and they asked if they could come at 6am. This was not possible but they told us the latest possible time was 7am. Fine. We were there at 7am, the movers were not, they showed up at 10am. Move in went off fine, they reassembled most of what they took apart, they were very nice, they were very fast. We thought all the bull from the pickup was behind us and we could move on. Dead wrong. The spring support to our daughter's bed was missing along with the mattress. So I began making phone calls. Our things had to be in storage for a couple days, we figured it probably just didn't make the truck. No big deal, we can even wait a day or two to get it. Voice mail, after voice mail, after voice mail was left with no return call. Finally after a more angry message I was called back asked some questions and then told I would get a call back in 2 hours. No such call ever happened. So I began calling again and again and again. No call back. For over a week. I finally get someone on the phone and the movers claimed that I told them to leave it behind. They actually claimed that I told them to take every other part of my daughter's bed, but not the actual mattress and most critical part to the bed frame itself. This job was over $6,000 and I tipped them hundreds more at the time of pickup and delivery. For that kind of money you would think the people at Beckens would at least return phone calls or be even slightly apologetic but you would be wrong. This experience was an absolute nightmare and my anger at Beckens is beyond words. My only recourse at this point is to write as many reviews as possible to try to cost them thousands and thousands of dollars in sales. If someone from Beckens is reading this, you probably know who I am. I'm not going to stop telling this story. Years from now I will still be posting this. I will be using every tool at my disposal to cost you business. You screwed over the wrong person.
