Door-to-door: don't expect much.

We used Door-to-Door moving to move from Maryland to California. We were very dissatisfied with the service on almost every aspect. Here are where we had issues: 1. Troubles signing up for the service. My husband originally contacted them and they offered a 10% discount. He called them back to confirm and the discount was gone since it was less then 24 hours from the original bid. I called as a “new customer” and got the 10% off. We chose them because they were the cheapest…and now I think there was a reason for that. 2. The unit arrived at our house later then expected. 3. We couldn’t schedule delivery when we wanted it. We were told to try and schedule the delivery 15 days before we needed it. We called while it was in transit twice and they wouldn’t schedule until the unit arrived. When the unit arrived, 16 days after it was picked up, we tried to schedule a delivery right away. They wouldn’t deliver it for 15 days. I had to call the manager of the company to get it delivered 10 days later. The manager was kind about rescheduling, but nonetheless I had to call to complain in order to get it done. 4. The lock was shattered when it arrived. Our combination lock was destroyed and had to be cut loose by the driver. The faceting of the box had to be completely manipulated by the driver before we could open the box. 5. The driver refused to put the box where we wanted it. Our building manager said that the unit could not be placed on the street or sidewalk, so we had an alley to place it in. The driver from the moment we went to met him, had it in his mind that we was going to place it in the front of the building half on the sidewalk and half in the street. He only attempted to place it in the alley after yelling at him to do so by both the building manager and myself. Requesting it politely did absolutely nothing. After a less then half hearted attempt to place the pod where we wanted it, he called his manager. He told his manager that we were going to place the unit in a place that would be inaccessible by the person picking it up. Which I clearly stated it would be accessible, several times. (this I didn’t find out until I called the manager later complaining about his service.) So the manager told us he had to place it in the street. Where it has been ticketed and manhandled by the locals. Things they had going for them… 1. They were the cheapest. 2. They were able to schedule the delivery sooner, but still not as soon as we wanted. 3. The person who handled the paperwork for everything on my end was nice. Overall, I would never use Door-to-door or suggest it to a friend. I would rather pay a couple hundred more for a better service.
