Worst Movers Ever!!!

These guys have to be the worst movers in existence. I originally spoke with James who promised me the move would be no more than $6450. We discussed the total amount of the move, not the price per cubic foot. Later on he debated this, but I will get to that momentarily. I sent James pictures of one store room, noting the size, and sent him only the size of the half-filled other store room. I told him that not all items were packed and explained to him the best I could the state of the items. I even offered for his company to come out and look at the store room so they can give a solid estimate. Apparently, this company chooses not to use estimators and only relies on customers verbal information. After all of this, James promised me a flat rate of $6450, going out of his way saying what a great deal he got me. They changed the pick up time 2 times. One time, James told me the time we had been booked for, for several weeks was no longer available and we had to change it. I made it very clear to him that we would only agree to a change if my husband could accommodate it. They did not offer us any money for the inconvenience (again, this will become noteworthy later). Once our items were picked up and loaded in the truck, the head mover guy said our cost was not $6450 anymore but $13,000!!!! All of our items were in storage - all they had to do was look in our 2 storage units to see how much stuff we had. But the guy didn't tell us the new cost until AFTER everything was loaded. We tried to call James at the office, but surprise! their office was closed on a random Wednesday in September. There was no voice mail or operator answering calls to take messages. The line just rang and rang and rang. I called 3 different numbers that James had called me from and it was all the same, no answer. When we finally got a hold of James on Friday, he said: 1) We did not have a flat rate agreement (lies). 2) There was a lot more than they had guessed based on the pictures 3) That he could reduce the price a little, but if he reduced it anymore (it was like $500 he was offering) it would come directly out of James paycheck and he'd have to pay the difference. Uh... ok. Finally, I threatened him with a lawyer so he passed me on to his manager, Alex. Alex spent a lot of time trying to get my husband and I to feel sorry for him: 1) They had to change the pick up times for 2 moves because we had so many items and they had to discount both of those customers $200. Uh, why didn't they discount us the 2 times they changed our dates? 2) He's going to lose money on this deal if he discounts us more. 3) As a company, they choose not to send out a person to give accurate quotes, so that's why this happened. (Sounds like a company problem to me). 4) How hard this whole situation was on him and his company financially. 5) How the actual movers are on autopilot and don't stop to think to compare the quote with what they see. Sounds like a training issue to me and not something that should be my problem. In the end, we agreed to $9200. Once we came to an agreement, our items were delivered fairly quickly (7 days). But it was BROKEN!!! It was delivered today, here are the things we've noticed as broken so far, not having to have gone through 1/10 of our items: 1) My infant's brand new crib. 2) My husband's motorcycle has a huge dent in the gas tank. We had to pay extra to have them deliver this! 3) Our antique dresser. 4) My bookcase. They don't put the furniture back together. Seriously, if it's between moving yourself or using these guys, Move yourself! These guys SUCK!
