First, Green states in its "Company Term & Conditions" that it "hires and trains the best and most experienced movers in the industry and provides a quality service unparalleled by any other moving company. Our professional movers go through an extensive training process ... " Perhaps that's true with their North Texas-based crew, but two of the three movers who delivered our goods in New Hampshire were day laborers contracted for the day through Labor Ready. While the delivery crew did a good job, it certainly was not what Green advertises. Also, Green is anything but. There was nothing "green" about the amount of tape and other materials the company used to excess and we ultimately tossed into the dumpster after unpacking. Being "green" by using "electronic communication" when possible does not translate into a "green" move, in my book. The pack-out in Texas was okay. A crew of four men arrived on time and packed out our apartment in about eight hours. The items were loaded in a "Green Van Lines" truck. The reps ensured us the company and it's own crews and trucks would be involved from start to finish. Not so. The delivery was made by a driver in an unmarked white 18-wheeler from California XXXbasically, a sub-contractor. Again, this is not what we were told when we were looking to hire a company. During the pack-out, the crew disassembled everything, including a complicated glass and metal desk which, at one point, was wrapped intact and ready to go onto the truck. A short while later I looked, and saw they had unwrapped it and took it apart. "You have instructions to reassemble this, right?" I was asked. "No," I replied. "Well, you can probably find them on-line," was the best advice they could give me. I didn't even know the make of the thing to even try to find it. Which brings us to the next broken promise. We contracted for, and were assured, this would be a complete pack-out and unpacking by Green, and that they would reassemble everything they took apart, and would get rid of all the boxes and packing materials after it was unpacked. During my discussion about the desk, I was informed they would not be reassembling it XXXjust the bed. In reality they disassembled the couch, recliner, kitchen table, television stand, coffee table, end tables and many, many more items. Oh, and by the way, they would not be unpacking us. To the credit of the subcontractor at the delivery end, the driver and his two day-laborers took care of what Green did not. While they did not unpack all the little boxes, they stayed around to help with the bigger boxes by breaking them down and carting them away. Also, they reassembled all the major items, including that desk. The desk alone took them two hours to figure out and put back together. They did this on their own after Green said it would not do it. The biggest issue came when the truck arrived to deliver our goods. We paid half at pack-out using a CC. We told Green at the time we also would be using the same CC to pay the other half upon delivery. The truck arrived, the driver called Green, and Green basically said they wouldn't do the card because we did not pre-clear it with them. They said this after they told us the card was cleared and good ... but company policy didn't allow taking a CC at delivery. In the end they backed off, and we made the transaction by CC, but this was yet another last-minute glitch that added to many frustrations we experienced in dealing with the company. Certainly they were easy to work with while they were courting us, and gave every appearance of being what they advertised. In retrospect, they weren't truly honest in their advertising and other aspects of this move. We did our homework, got numerous quotes from eight or ten movers (big and small) and were sold by what Green seemed to offer. Knowing what we know now, we would have stuck to one of the major, nationwide movers. The quotes we had were fairly close, so our choice had nothing to do with one company being cheaper than another.
