Despite some of the reviews I've seen below, I went with Green Lines with all of the positive reviews. Here are pros and cons: Pros: 1) Great price. 2) No hidden costs except those up front (like more than 100 ft, then you get charged extra). There are no costs tacked on at the end.. you will know about them from the beginning. 3) Fairly good communication, though there was some confusion regarding insurance issues. I got a call from dispatch a few days ahead of delivery, and then the day before delivery in the evening. Levi walked through everything quite clearly and does well to reassure you of the process. 4) No items missing that I am aware of (still unpacking, but everything looks good). I was worried about this when I read some of the horror stories on these reviews, but my items were fine. Cons: 1) The sub-contracted moving company (which may not have the same rating as Green Van Lines on BBB) tried to charge me for insurance to cover moving out of my old building. I talked to the super in the building, and he mentioned that he has never heard of a moving company charging for this portion. Later, the sub-contracted moving company called to tell me they wanted to charge me for insurance which I did *not* authorize. When I said no, then they tried to charge me for 1/2 of the insurance. If that doesn't sound shady, what does? In the end, after 3+ hrs of my time wasted to argue, there were no extra charges. 2) It would have been nice if Green Van Lines told me ahead of time exactly which moving companies were sub-contracted. For GVL to simply say they recently acquired the sub-contracted companies is most likely false (all papers from the sub contracted companies show no indication of Green Van Lines anywhere in their paperwork). 3) There were small damages to some of the fragile boxes which were marked fragile. Seems that some of the movers didn't care too much if a box is labeled fragile. But it's also noteworthy that the majority of glass/fragile items were *not* damaged. There you have it. I had a fairly good experience and would probably use GVL again. I could see how if a bad sub-contracted company was involved, you could get into a mess, but ultimately, GVL should be held responsible for any actions since they are who you contacted and are paying for the job. You may want to clarify this with GVL before deciding to purchase a move with GVL.
