AWFUL: HAD TO CALL POLICE, DO NOT USE!

From pick-up to delivery our experience with King Van Lines (KVL) has been terrible. KVL did not deliver when they said they would, they tried to hit us with numerous hidden / additional charges, and our furniture was only delivered after the truck driver was pulled over by police and forced to deliver, after having attempted to run me over with his truck. Below are a few specific examples of why you should not use this company: 1. Upon pick-up, the movers arrived and infomred my girlfriend before they had moved anything that tipping was customary, implying that if she didn't tip them before they began they wouldn't handle here belongingS with care. As she was on her own and had no smaller change she handed over $20 to the movers for what would be less than an hours work. 2. KVL delivered our belongins two weeks after the delivery date they had promised. 3. KVL charges an additional fees if they cannot make it to your door. This is especially convenient when the truck driver is a first time driver and cannot back the truck up. This is evidence by the fact that he at first drove by our turn off, and when he tried to reverse he jack-knifed the truck into a ditch. He had to call a tow-truck company and then tried to charge us $95 an hour while we waited to have the truck towed. 4. KVL told us that local movers would cost $400. When I asked them how much they were being paid by KVL, they local movers said $150, that's a conveneient $350 profit for the truck driver for being too inexperienced to make it to our door. Our goods weighed less than 2,000 pounds and my girlfriend saw the driver holding a sheet that said delivery prices were as follows: $200 for 2,000 lbs. $300 for 3,000 lbs, and $400 for 4,000 lbs. Why the driver was trying to charge us $400 is unknown. 5. We agreed with both with the truck driver and his manager that payment by credit card was ok. When the truck driver arrived he said only cash was acceptable. Like most people we don't have $600 in cash lying around the house so we had to make a trip to the bank. Once again the driver tried to charge us $95 an hour while he waited, another convenient scam. 6. Upon refusing to pay the additional charges. the driver got in his cab and said he was leaving. (According to the driver if KVL has to store your property overnight and come back to deliver the next day, you have to pay $750, another part of the scam). I decided to stand in front of the truck at which time the driver revved his engine and drove straight at and into me. Luckily I got out the way before any real damage was done. 7. After the above episodes we called the police, who attempted to pull the truck over. At first, even when lit up the driver did not stop. Eventually, the driver stopped and when threatened with going to jail the driver returned. 8. It was now very late at night and the driver refused to help us unload. We had to call local movers to help out. Our goods were supposed to be at the back but were wedged somewhere in the middle of the truck and were packed so tightly that 90% of our boxes our crushed. I still haven't finished unpacking but numerous items including a kitchen table are damaged. After unpacking our items everything in the truck looked like it was going to collapse. I hate to think what state the rest of the goods will be delivered in. 9. The driver asked my girlfriend to sign a contract saying that everything had been delivered in good condition. When she started to make notes on the contract that things weren't in good condition he grabbed her hand and said she couldn't do that. Eventually, she made her notes and signed, although he refused to provide us with a copy so we don't know what else he has written since we signed. 10. During this whole process, the driver kept telling me that his office was shut and he had no after hours number. However, when pulled over by the police he promptly provided then with a number. 11. KVL is not a moving company that sees your goods go from start to finish. The actual carrier is a seperate company, in this case they rented a truck and asked a first time driver to drive it. Your goods are then unloaded by local movers. This is just a smalll sample of everything that happened. There are a lot of moving companies out there so I would strongly recommend not using KVL. If it wasn't for the police, our belongings would not have been delivered. DO NOT USE KING VAN LINES.
