King Van Lines (Plantation, FL/Van Nuys,Ca). I was quoted $2465 for an estimated 4,930lbs of furniture. Do not accept an emailed quote, have it faxed instead! The day of the move the driver tried to convince me that I should pay for this move by cubic square feet instead of by weight, because he "guesstimated" that my furniture weighed 13,000lbs ($7,000+)...So he suggested that I lock-in the deal-of-the-day! He said my furniture took up 1600 cu sq ft on their truck, which was equivalent to a 10,000lb load, so I could lock-in the price $5,000...so even if my furniture weighed more than 10k, I would still ONLY be paying $5k..but if you pay by cu sq ft, the load isnt weighed, so you will never know "what's behind door#1 lol". Once the blood-sucking-piranha's had my furniture 2 days after picking it up, they told me my load weighed 10,840lbs & the total move would cost $5,700. I requested a copy of the weight tickets several times, was told they would be faxed, never received them. After 2 weeks of poor customer service & phone tag, I filed a complaint with the BBB in Florida & Calif, since they have 2 BBB accts. In Florida, they show 0 complaints, A-Rating, which is what I saw before being taken for a ride!...After my furniture was taken hostage and held for ransom, I found their BBB page in Calif with the complaints! So anyhoo, after filing the complaint, the 3rd party mediator sent me a copy of the weight tickets that showed my furniture weighed 10,840lbs. I disputed this because I didin't have that much furniture. They kept my furniture in their storage facility, since they offered 30-days of "free storage". 27 days into the 30 days, I received an email from Chris saying my furniture would be auctioned-off soon. Day 29, the owner/Izhak tells me they are going to start deducting $400mth for storage fees from the money I already paid them. So anyway, I borrowed the ransom money, they hired some other moving company to bring my furniture. We met at the weight station, my furniture weighed ONLY 7,100lbs! 5 weeks of inconvenience, aggravation, sleeping on the floor, and living without refrigeration for nothing! The moving truck wasn't weighed empty before picking up my furniture, they told me the weigh station was closed in N.Calif in my town. They picked up my furniture and weighed the truck full first for the "after" weight...They weighed the "empty" truck for the "before" weight, 2 days later & 400miles away near their office in S. Calif. Since some 18-wheelers can hold up to 400 gallons of diesel fuel..and diesel fuel weighs 7lbs per gallon..2800 extra pounds could possibly be added to your load, depending on how much fuel was in the truck at the time of weighing. Think about it..Your furniture plus a truck with a full gas tank (2800lbs)...then the empty truck with an empty gas tank...Guess who could be paying for the gas? Better YOU than ME!
