Nationwide Van Lines: Bait and Switch; Horrible Experience

Basically Nationwide promises a lot but delivers very little. My issue was not with their pickup, but rather with their delivery service. First, they show up with this enormous tractor-trailer that basically would not be allowed in 90% of residential communities, basically forcing you to have to pay an additional $400 for shuttle service (they unload your items and pack them in a normal size U-Haul). Apparently, this is their M.O. You may have one bedroom worth of stuff, but they deliver in a huge 18-wheeler that is guaranteed not to be allowed in your subdivision, apartment complex, etc., and then tack on an additional $400 that you weren't expecting because they are using this colossal truck. We actually think there may be some grounds for a class-action lawsuit to end this manipulative practice by moving companies like Nationwide. Second, their truck driver was one of the rudest people I have ever met. I am sure he has never even heard of the term "customer service." He was extremely rude to myself and my wife - and I didn't want to even let him in my house. Third, we ordered their "platinum packing service," but what they neglect to mention is that this does not include any unpacking, and they refuse to even put boxes in the specific rooms they belong - according to the driver, the boxes have to be stacked in one place as per company policy. A policy of course they neglect to mention when you are requesting an estimate an ordering packing/unpacking service. Also, the basic reassembly they provided was terrible. My wife laid on a bed they put together and almost hurt herself after laying on the bed since it fell apart because of the shoddy job they did screwing the frame together. It makes me glad that they also refused to reassemble my baby's crib...they would have a serious lawsuit on their hands if that fell apart. Our brand new dining room table and chairs were also damaged, and a bookcase was damaged. After making customer service aware of these issues, absolutely nothing has been done in terms of resolution. I would not recommend that anyone use this service based on our experience. You do not get what you pay for and expect to pay for a lot more than what you are quoted.
