Our Move ended up costing a fortune

My husband's job transferred him to Atlanta Georgia, so I had to find a job quickly and we needed to move. I got a job and I needed to start within 2 weeks, so the house got packed and his company offered to pay for the move, so we decided to hire a moving company so we wouldn't have the hassle of figuring out how to get his work truck and 2 other cars up as well as a baby since it is not recommended to put a baby in the front of a moving truck. So we got a bunch of quotes and North American sounded like they knew the most about moving our stuff. They told us everything was based off of weight. So we got rid of a lot of things and packed as best we could. On Saturday November 24, the movers were supposed to show up between 9 a.m. and noon. They finally showed up around 3 p.m. They then informed us that nothing could be loose, so they offered to pack some of the loose things we had, (baby swing, 2 gal drink cooler, odds and ends that we didn't really think would be a big deal and could fit in the truck where they needed some odd things to fit to fill the truck). So we figured a couple of hundred dollars for a couple of boxes, well when they finished and showed us the bill they charged us $2600 for 6 boxes, packaging, and 58 rolls of packaging tape OMG, we just about crapped a brick, and they would not negotiate at all on this. We never expected our couch to be wrapped in boxes and tape, everything possible was wrapped in boxes, tape, or the really heavy moving blankets (not the cheap ones you can rent from U Haul). So we figured out just what a scam, this moving company was when we saw all the additional packaging materials that increased the weight of our things. By going through on the phone every single room and telling this company everything we had to move, they guessed that our things would weigh 8600 pounds (not including their materials), so after all is said and done our stuff ending up weighing 14200. Then to top it all off the movers all asked for a tip after they loaded the truck and unloaded the truck, all of the garbage from the packaging materials were left scattered throughout the house, they smoked cigars and cigarettes right outside the front door, and so we had to try to get the smell out of the room from the front of the house, and now that all the boxes are unpacked, every box that said fragile, glass, handle with care everything inside the boxes is broken or shattered, two table lamps are broken, so apparently they can't read, and are careless with peoples things. This moving company is out to get you for everything!!!!! Do not use them, when we told them about the lateness, mess, broken things, they only offered to take a whole $250 off our total cost.
