I would not recommend this moving company to anyone. We negotiated the moving costs for our move from Maryland to Georgia thru Moving APT. We completed the inventory list for Moving APT and were given a cost based on the estimated weight of 3485lbs. We purposely built in extra weight just in case our inventory was inaccurate. If our weight came in under, we would then see our estimate go down.
The move was scheduled on Memorial Day and moving company selected by Moving APT was State Wide Relocation. When they State Wide arrived to our home we were told that we would be charged an additional amount for the distance from their truck to our front door. This was STRIKE 1 for me. The distance did not appear to go over the distance stated in my agreement with Moving APT, but we did not argue since it was Memorial Day and we were not expecting them to be open on that day. STRIKE 2 came when the driver looked at our load and said he thought we would exceed the maximum cubic ft allowed for our pickup and their would be an additional charge. He told us that we would exceed our weight limit also. I looked at my agreement and there was a reference of cubic ft. so I assumed (definitely my fault) tthat the driver was being honest. He then asked if we would like to just go with cubic ft vs the weight and said he would even close out the load only slightly above and not record the actual cubic ft. Needless to say that this resulting in our estimate going from $1495 to $2035. Because it was after 6pm and we needed to have our furniture arrive in 4 days we felt we had to accept the deal. Part of the scam in this whole situation is that the movers arrived after 6pm making it impossible to verify the information. W were unable to reach anyone in the State Wide office to confirm the information and we were unable to reach customer service for Moving APT. The next day I called Moving APT and they told me that there was not a cubic ft requirement but State Wide by law had to offer us the option of cubic ft!
Strike 3 to this whole saga and my rationale for posting this review is when we still requested that we get the official weight for our load. The driver said that since we opted for the cubic ft he was technically not supposed to weigh the load, but he would call us back with the weight the next day. The final weight he provided 2085 lbs, way below our initial quote which would have resulted in our original estimate of $1495 coming down to $1200!!! Once again the driver arrived with our delivery way past the office hours of State Wide. Because we were scammed into believing that our weight well exceeded the negotiated weight, we are now out nearly $600. The driver new we were below the weight, he just scammed us into accepting the extra costs.
My word of advice to anyone seeking movers is to not use State Wide. They are dishonest!
