Don't use The Moving Experts or Elite

We had an awful experience with The Moving Experts of Illinois, and with the movers to whom they brokered our move, Elite Moving & Storage. The Moving Experts are a broker, and as soon as you pay them the deposit, they subcontract your move to another firm. In our case, it was Elite Moving & Storage. Immediately, Elite attempted to add surcharges (such as a gas surcharge), and issue us new paperwork with move terms that contradicted the previous move terms given to us by The Moving Experts. Under normal circumstances, we could have said "thanks but no thanks," but THEY ALREADY HAD MY GIRLFRIENDS STUFF. We had to dance their dance and do what they said because they had her held hostage and she needed her stuff to start her new job. When they finally arrived (late, and with a dead truck battery my gf had to jump for them), they returned the favor by losing or stealing $1500 worth of her items (including all of her boots which made her cry) and without making an effort to look for the missing stuff, referred us to their 3rd-party "claims department," and told us we couldn't expect too much more than $0.60 per pound on the items. So we'd probably get a few $20 bills to cover the cost of $1500 in lost items, on top of a $1500 move. We're out $3,000 and these people really act like they couldn't care less. Disgraceful.
