I was interested in Trans national van lines because of the reasonable quote and some good reviews that I came across online. The price was given to me based on the item list that I provided to them. They estimated a total weight of 4500lbs of my stuffs which was couple of hundreds lbs more than the estimate of others companies. I found theirs more acceptable as they mentioned that they estimated the weight considering the worst case scenario (i.e. considering the maximum weight possible for a given item) so that if there is a variation in the final list of items during loading, the total weight is still within the given estimate and I don't have to pay more. At this point everything sounded good and I hired them.
NOW GUESS WHAT ........yes, with all their claimed experience, skill, expertise and wisdom the “estimate” was wrong (intentional ? may be….). For some mysterious reasons the total weight went to over 6000 lbs although there is no change in the heavy items in the list. Its true the actual items included a very few additional lightweight stuffs (such as baby swing etc.) and five (2 small and 3 medium) boxes BUT I also excluded some heavier items such as kitchen table, TV stand etc. My furniture are made of woods not stone, they are not expensive heavy furniture either, therefore I had no clue why the weight would go up that high. A variation around 5% may happen in any estimation, but by no means a variation of over 48% is acceptable. I contacted the company several times and apparently they talked to the driver and real company (ABCO van lines) who they arranged for me to do the real moving.
But nothing really worked.
At the end, I am the person who ultimately suffered and paid couple of hundreds more than I was prepared to, either the company was being dishonest by giving me a wrong figure (just to get the business), or they did not have any idea what they were dealing with (which is hard to believe) or they hooked me up with a really bad company with some dishonest people (in this case I think Trans national van lines should take the responsibility but they did not).
I would not mind paying the amount that I actually paid if it was the real cost. But it would be much better and honest if I was informed about the actual price before I signed up. With the same price I could hire a local company who could come to my house and physically see my stuffs before giving me a quote and that would eliminate the drama I have gone through.
