My wife and I relocated for work and were going to use u-haul, but my wife thought it may be easier to use a long distance mover. we submitted our move and had a few movers respond with a quote. US Van Lines was the first to respond with a quote of $1372.49 by John Niewoehner in sales. He stated they would load, move and unload for the price listed. We printed, signed and emailed back the forms they requested to confirm the move price. They also wanted a deposit of $611.79 to hold the agreement, this was given when the contract was signed. As soon as the deposit was taken, Thomas Kiernan of their Quality Assurance Department contacted me and informed me that the price may go up when the moved was weighed at the scale. It would be best for me if I had another $420 taken as a deposit so I could get the better price if the weight was more than originally quoted and would be refunded back if the original weight was good. I agreed at the time so the deposit was made, but then he sent another quote to be signed and sent back for the amount of $1900, so I called and wanted to cancel the move with them. He stated I would probably loose my deposit, so I continued the move and he refunded my second deposit of $420. When I first set up the move with John, I told him I would like to have the move delivered 11/15/2010 and he said that it would not be an issue. Later, we made the delivery 11/16/2010 since we needed to have it delivered after 1:00pm on 11/15/2010. Once John found out about trying to cancel, he sent me another contract to sign and send back stating that the move would not exceed $1540.10. Right before the move, John sent another contract to be signed and sent back. He stated that it was going to another carrier and he did not tell me who it was. The contracts back and forth was all going on while I am trying to pack, but had to keep one room unpacked to play the back and forth contract game. Move day finally came around, another carrier Duntara Moving and Storage (no ties to US Van Lines as expected) came with only one mover and the truck had holes in the front box and graffiti on the sides. The issue I have with one mover is the 65" tv I had moved, that was the main reason I used a moving company. The driver never gave me any papers with the name of the company or contact information, just an inventory sheet that I had to sign. I found out at that time, the delivery date could be anywhere from 11/15/2010 - 11/27/2010. This is why John had me sign a last minute contract before the move. I called US Van Lines so called customer care rep Sasha with the number she had left on my cel phone 4 times with no answer or return call. I did not even find out the name of the moving company until the day before the move. I called and asked the moving company when the driver would be delivering, she stated it would be in a few hours yesterday 11/17/2010, We waited and the driver finally called and stated he was about 6 hours away - this was after we waited the few hours. The driver called and stated he was trying to find a helper and would drive here as soon as he could find one, he said he would call when he was an hour away. The driver finally arrived at 8:00pm and the helper dropped the tv on the way up the stairs. Good luck if you ever use this company, I will never use a long distance moving company again.
