Unprofessional and doubled in price

This is without a doubt one of the worst, most unprofessional moving companies I have ever dealt with. I was relocating for work from the Boston area to Virginia and received a phone quote after giving a detailed description of every item in the apartment. I was given an estimate including moving and packing materials. When the movers arrived, I was informed I had ordered "the wrong kind of boxes" and that the ones they would need would cost much more than the original estimate. In addition, I was told that if there was any weight difference I would be responsible for paying for that also. While there are always some surprise charges with moving companies, I indicated that I would not be willing to pay for extra boxes since I had given a detailed description of every single thing in the apartment at the time the estimate was sent over. The mover suggested I call the company and they might give me "some sort of discount." I was also informed that I would receive a phone call by the end of that day with the final weight, since payment is due upon delivery of any balance that remains. As of 3pm the next day I had not gotten any calls back about either the packing materials or the weight difference. When I finally called the company again, I was told that they still didn't know the weight and the "manager" had no authority whatsoever to make any changes in the prices and the owner would call me. Once again, no phone call and I ended up having to call multiple times, and finally two hours before the scheduled drop off I was told I owed almost $2000 extra and that they had already given me some undisclosed discount. The owner was rude, unprofessional, and abrasive, and basically said that his employee made a mistake while giving me the quote but that I was responsible for her mistakes. Long story short, I had to get a lawyer involved and threaten to bill the moving company for all new furniture before they agreed to $750 due (in 30 min). The entire process was handled unprofessionally and in the worst way possible, and this business has since had their BBB certification revoked, for very good reason. Stay far away from this company, they are crooks who try to bully you into paying whatever price they feel like charging.
