We were looking for moving companies that could transport two storage units from SC to FL. We were chiefly talking with local moving companies in Charleston but somehow Ben Express reached us. Christal originally said they did not actually have the ability to lift these units filled with personal items onto one of their trucks and so I thanked her and hung up. She then called several times and began asking me questions about the items being moved, stating she needed approximate weights and cubic feet of my furniture. I told her that was not necessary since she had been told the precise measurements of the units we were moving. But she continued and yes, we did not know the exact weight, but the other company we were also talking with had been willing to transport without actually knowing the weight, but gave an approximate weight since this company had provided such services before. Christal commented that Ben Express was not like other companies...they DID NOT ADD ON ADDITIONAL FEES AFTER PROVIDING THEIR SERVICES. Christal gave us a quote that was less than the company with the experience and Ben Express was willing to be at the residence on the date we hoped to move, less than a week from when we were finalizing the other details. We paid Ben Express a downpayment of $300. By this time, Christal had convinced us that the company could also provide the men to actually move my funiture and other belongings for a reasonalbe fee. She then began telling me the details of the contract XXXAFTER THEY RECEIVED THE DOWNPMT. The men were not required to move items from one place to the other if over a stated amount of feet; anytime a mover had to go over the stated distance, we would be charged a fee for additional distance. If this happened or that occurred, there would be additional fees and on and on. THAT WAS ENOUGH TO NULL THE CONTRACT! But then I realized Ben Express was not capable of moving two storage units as we originally requested. CHRISTAL WAS TRYING TO GET THEIR MOVERS AND THEIR TRUCK TO THE RESIDENSE UNDER FALSE PRETENSES! Fortunately, I realized her dishonesty. I cancelled the contract before it was signed, and asked to get our refund. Christal had me talk to her supervisor who was the owner, Ben Willis, and after much discussion with him about what had developed to cause the "misunderstanding", he told me I would be refunded. After all, no contract had been signed and no services were given. That was last year, June 2011. I have just contacted the BBB of FL. BBB will be able to help anyone with such dishonesty, but you must know the address of the company you have a complaint about.
